Butch King

Piano Instructor

Butch King currently serves Columbia Baptist as Pastor for Worship, Music and Arts.  Originally from North Carolina, he was raised in the Wesleyan Church where he began serving as the assistant pianist of his home church at the young age of nine.  During his teenage years, he competed in denominational competitions where for multiple years he placed first in solo piano and vocal competitions within the Southern Area of the denomination and also placed third nationally.

After completing his undergraduate degree at Southern Wesleyan University, he began his full-time career as a Youth and Music minister in Brevard NC.  During his thirteen years at Brevard Wesleyan, he mentored and developed countless students in the arts, helping them to develop their musical talents as well as competing and placing in the denominational competitions, with several pursuing their own musical careers.  He also was able to assist his alma mater in developing and leading a premier vocal group, the University Singers, which continues to represent the university today.  Prior to coming to northern Virginia, he completed a master’s degree in Worship Studies from Liberty University.

From teaching a solo pianist to leading a 250 voice choir and 50 piece orchestra, he brings years of experience that is custom tailored to the needs of his students.  Leading and mentoring students to develop their God-given talents has always been a driving force of his studio.  After two decades of teaching, inspiring his students to reach beyond what they believe is possible continues to be his focus and goal.
